Kazakhstan and Cisco Leaders Discussed the Influence of Innovations on the Business and Country Development

Cisco TelePresence technology enabled Cisco employees in Kazakhstan to hold a virtual meeting with the Corporate Head

ASTANA, Kazakhstan, 28 January 2009 – the Prime Minister of the Republic Kazakhstan Karim Masimov and the Chairman of the Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer of Cisco Company, John Chambers met on 26 January in the capital of Kazakhstan – Astana to discuss the influence of innovative technologies on economic and social development of the country. They discussed the role of network technologies in development of public health services, education and business, meaning that introduction of such technologies allows greater numbers of citizens to receive social services they need. The chairman of the RK Agency for Information Technologies and Communication Kuanyshbek Yesikeyev and the President of Emerging Markets Theatre for Cisco Company Paul Mountford also participated in the meeting.

In Astana Cisco leaders visited a show room of the national communication services provider – Kazakhtelecom JSC and met the Chairman of the Management Board Askar Zhumagalieyv. During this visit J. Chambers and P. Mountford held a virtual meeting with the employees of Cisco office in Almaty. The distance of more than 1200 kilometers dividing the northern and southern capitals of Kazakhstan did not interfere with it: "live" meeting was carried out thanks to Cisco TelePresence system installed by the national communication services provider. Kazakhtelecom became the first operator in the CIS countries who got the visual communication between Astana, Almaty and Moscow up and running with the use of Cisco TelePresence innovative technology.

“Broadband communication networks and infocom technologies can significantly change social and economic development of Kazakhstan by providing new approaches to public health services, education and key initiatives of the government, - said the President of Emerging Market Theatre for Cisco Company Paul Mountford. - Being one of the leading communication services providers in the region, Kazakhtelecom has in due time realized the strength and capabilities of video technologies such as Cisco TelePresence which allow to hold face-to-face business meetings bridging over the geographical and cultural borders and huge distances, dividing the participants of such meetings. Figures and facts about Cisco TelePresence:

- More than 300 customers of Cisco Company have established over 1500 call rooms throughout the world for video communication using Cisco TelePresence.

- More than 335 rooms equipped in 135 large cities of 40 countries function in Cisco Company.

- Cisco employees monthly apply Cisco TelePresence systems to hold about 10000 virtual meetings both with the colleagues and the customers.

- Weekly about 800 multi point meetings are held using Cisco TelePresence technology within Cisco company.

- Thanks to this technology allowing to considerably reduce the number of air flights and car trips, Cisco has already prevented emission of 91 301 tons of hydrocarbons in the atmosphere.

- Due to use of Cisco TelePresence systems Cisco employees could do without approximately 43 000 business trips that has already saved almost 169 million US dollars to the company from air flights and travel expenses.
